Plea of Guilty
By pleading guilty, the defendant admits to committing the act charged, that the act is prohibited, and that there is no defense for the act.

What You Need to Understand
Before entering a plea of guilty, please consider the following:

  • The State has the burden of proving its case. The defendant has the right to hear the State’s evidence and to require the State to prove its case. If the State does not, the law does not require the defendant to prove anything.
  • If involved in a traffic accident at the time of the alleged offense, a plea of guilty could be used in a civil suit for damages as an admission of fault or admission as the responsible party.
