Citizens on Patrol
About the Program
The Benbrook Citizens on Patrol (COPs) is a volunteer organization that assists the police department with special events and during critical incidents. Members also perform regular patrols to observe and report criminal activity, crime hazards and suspicious behavior.

Classes & Training
The Benbrook Police Department holds an annual Citizens Police Academy each spring. This free course lasts 10 to 12 weeks and can be attended by Benbrook residents who are 18 years of age or older. The classes are held every Tuesday from 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM. Some of the course material includes:
  • Communications
  • Criminal investigations/crime scene techniques
  • Patrol tactics

Classes are taught by professional instructors that include:
  • Detectives
  • Elected officials
  • Judges
  • Other citizens on patrol members
  • Police officers

Academy graduates may simply attend the course for informational reasons, or may elect to join the Benbrook Citizens on Patrol organization.
